“I want people to enter my paintings, to transcend them and carry them beyond the image. I want them to feel my landscapes, not just see them” ~Martina.
Martina Goldberg was born in Bremen, Germany, in 1945 just in time to welcome the end of WWII. The Northern German Plain with its vast, flat open landscapes occasionally interrupted by trees, and always “a horizon to cling to,” influenced her artistic expression. Growing up in post-war Germany, she started her career as a photographer’s apprentice. Fascinated by contrasts and open spaces, Martina soon developed her own way of seeing her surroundings.
Love and courage led her to Mexico, where she started her family, found inspiration as an artist, and ultimately grew deep roots where the mountains touch the sea.
It was there she first found her voice as a poet and then as a painter. Her many collective and solo exhibits culminated at Galería Uno, in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where she spent years as a permanent exhibitor, curator and co-owner, before discovering and developing her gifts as a healer. Each of Martina’s works reflects a wonderful integration of her gifts, and is part of many private collections around the world.
Martina combines visual aspects of the Mexican landscape with the Northern European spirit, taking her expression beyond the limits of the viewer’s eye. Using “light” as her starting point, just a few visual elements and a limited palette, Martina’s works are both dramatically contrasted and subtly blended, which is her way of interpreting the essence and mood onto her paintings.
“Through my paintings I try to give the viewer a moment to get in touch with him or herself within the feeling of nature, and evoke a connection to their inner landscape”.
