Originally from Colorado, Dana began working with metal while studying art in college. She formed an instant connection with the material, the great variety of ways it could be manipulated and the use of fire as part of its various processes. This connection with metal has lasted decades and taken her to many places. Along the way, she received a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and she filled teaching positions in higher education from Pittsburgh to Hong Kong. She also began a studio practice showing her award winning work internationally. A job as an artist-in-residence at the Oregon School of Arts and Crafts in Portland first brought her to Oregon. She returned in 1994, this time to live in the Rogue Valley where she taught Metalsmithing and Jewelry classes at Southern Oregon University and Rogue Community College. Her art has ranged from jewelry using mostly abstract or geometric shapes to metal dominated relief wallpieces that have often used introspective imagery.
